The next FingerFood story will be ready soon, but subscribers can beat the rush and see it early!

Okay, so maybe that was a bit contrived. But I figure I'm back to the place where I had the heyday of .plan file/FingerFood days. So what the heck. Might as well make use of it again.

Those of you that are fortunate enough to be subscribers to the fabulous University of Waterloo Math Faculty will be able to log into your accounts and take advantage of this wonderful feature and see my FingerFood stories before they get published to the world at large here.

Settling in

It's been far too long since I last updated. Sorry about that. I really have no idea how many people actually read my blog on a regular basis. Or for that matter on an irregular basis. Hi all youz out there.

I've been at my job for almost exactly one month now. How is it going you ask?

Well, mostly, slowly.

A new person was sorely needed here. People are very busy and over worked. So when I came on, I was all set to learn everything I needed to know and get right into it.

The only problem is that people are too busy to be able to give me time to show me how to do things. It's been pretty frustrating at times, though things are a bit better now. I still feel totally out of sorts, but I have enough knowledge and access to things now that I can piece together bits here and there, and people have been making some time for me when that wasn't enough.

That's mostly it. I've been coming home with next to no energy, so I haven't been doing much else. But I'm starting to slowly join the world again. Tai Chi classes have started up again, and I've been getting some climbing in here and there. Yesterday I actually got to outdoors for the first time in a long while, and the weather was absolutely gorgeous.

Still there, still pink.
A nice semi-over-exposed picture of the MC building at night

Back on campus once again. Frosh week has just got underway, and of course there's students both new and returning alike, everywhere. And of course with Frosh comes the pink tie.

I'm slowly getting moved in here. Last week was mostly a write-off, unfortunately, with most people that could help me off on vacation for some or all of the week. I finally got voice mail today, for example. I actually came to campus this evening to bring some recently repotted plants to my office. It was my first repotting attempt. We'll see if they survive.

Since I was on campus anyway, I rambled up to the Tie Guard area, and said hi. Introduced myself as the Frosh Teamster from '98, and was reminded how old I was, when there were in fact no leaders there who'd even started school in '98. Nevertheless, folk said hi back. I stuck around long enough to play a few hands of bridge, and snap the above shot of the tie. Someday, I'll get a tripod or something.

Once upon a time, there was a little boy who started a new job
in the IT department of a large academic organisation. He was just learning the ropes of his job, when all of a sudden, the network died.

Being sort of new to the job, he wasn't sure what to do, and milled about uncertainly, until he noticed that others were milling about as well, and he asked what was going on. Thus the little boy found out that it was a network problem that one of the other IT-related groups was looking in to, and there was nothing that they could do for the time being.

So the little boy went off and wandered about the building, eating Pocky and wondering when the network would be back up, when he was accosted by an irate researcher, heck bent on finishing his research. Which, now that I think about it, isn't all that unreasonable a thing to be all heck bent about.

In any event, the lack of available data had made the researcher a little crazed, and he was wandering about looking for any kind of data that could help him finish his work. Unfortunately, his research happened to be on the effects of highly processed Japanese confections on the livers of adolescent males, and when the researcher chanced upon the little boy, he got that gleam in his eye that often indicates to an audience of a movie that this character is either maniacal, or insane, or possibly just evil, except, not being a movie, or at the very least, if it was a movie, the little boy would not be on the other side of the fourth wall in that way, and so totally missed the gleam, or at least wasn't tipped off by the sinister music, and so didn't turn to flee until it was too late, and was dissected by the researcher for the greater good. So I guess the researcher wasn't really evil. Just misunderstood.

THE END
